Reasons to Use LED Lights Outdoors

Once the benefits of LED lights were discovered by the general public, they became a popular choice for use indoors. Unfortunately, it took much longer for LED lights to become a staple in outdoor applications. This is because they were initially much more expensive when installed in large scale projects such as street lights and landscapes. Today this is no longer the case. There are four primary reasons LED lights should be considered for outdoor applications including street lights, flood lights, tunnels, landscapes, crosswalks, and even underwater.

The first reason to consider using LED lights outdoors is economic efficiency. They boast a longer life expectancy than traditional translucent bulbs. This significantly reduces the maintenance and replacement costs. One of the biggest problems with outdoor lighting is replacing bulbs once they go out. With a longer lifespan, LED minimize this problem. Additionally, modular design led street light reduce the amount of energy required to operate them. This provides a long-term cost savings on electricity expenses.

Another benefit of using LED lights outdoors is they are more environmentally friendly. They are completely smokeless, contain no mercury, and produce a minimum amount of CO2. These are all problems commonly associated with different types of traditional bulbs.

While outdoor installations are typically fairly permanent, especially for street lights and tunnels, there are certain situations in which the installations are moved. For example, flood lights and landscape lights are often adjusted for maximum coverage. LED lights offer excellent design changeability because they offer an independent modular design. This allows buyers to utilize a single large installation that can offer multiple looks based upon how each module is setup. Over time, this makes changing the LED display simple and cost-effective.

The final reason to use LED lights outdoors is reliability. LED offer the ability to more effectively manage the temperature of each light. This is accomplished through the use of an aluminum radiation board. These boards allow for separate amounts of lighting power to be distributed to each module. In the end, this allows each module to be independently controlled and powered. Not only does this make maintenance easier and more convenient, it also ensures all of the lights do not go out at once due to a single failure in the power supply. As an added bonus, only LED can consistently generate a clear, natural color rather than the yellow tint associated with translucent bulbs.
